June 1999. A book proposal is prepared. I have a respected coauthor on board. The working title is Beyond the Sanctuary: The Role and Future of the Parachurch. We both believe we'll get a book contract. But it doesn't happen.
Still, the topic interests me. What is the parachurch? How is it different from the church proper? What can the parachurch do that the church can't? How did these kinds of groups begin and with what purposes in mind? What is their relationship to the subject of ecclesiology?
But for now the outline for Beyond the Sanctuary remains in my file of rejected book proposals. Maybe some day it will see the light of day.
