Although I've written before about the impending TVpocalypse (i.e., the coming shift from analog to digital transmissions), I thought I'd post this brief update. I was reminded of the impending revenge of the blank TV screen by a New York Times article, "Millions Face Blank Screens in TV Switch."
Are blank TV screens really something to worry about? With so many ways to numb ourselves with diversion, would blank television screens really contribute to entertainment chaos?
In his book Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil Postman wrote, "Television does not extend or amplify literate culture. It attacks it."
And in case you're keeping track, the new date for the TVpocalypse is June 12.
